Description
In cars, methanol is used as a de-icer and as an antifreeze in pipelines and windshield washer fluids. In motor sports, methanol is used as an air cooler. At high engine speed, a large amount of heat is released, and the antifreeze does not have time to carry that heat to the radiator, and the engine block may deform, melt, or experience other failures. In order to reduce the temperature of the combustion chamber, a mixture of methanol and water (50/50) is injected into the air supply system, thus cooling the incoming air, and the water vapor is able to absorb a large amount of heat. In this way, the engine temperature is regulated even under extremely high engine loads.
